Schlitz Audubon #25 & 26

The wind was blowing in big changes in the weather this morning. Started sunny, then ended with a massive cloud bank. I love this bag on my easel from our independent book store in town, Next Chapter Books. However, I think it should read Eat, Sleep, Read and PAINT! Might also add play and pray!

Schlitz Audubon #24

It was warm this morning at the lakefront, well relatively speaking. Very calm and peaceful. Spotted this nice little nest along a path, thought the snow looked like a giant egg in the nest.

Skaters at Lynden Sculpture Garden

What a beautiful day for skating (and painting) before the big football game! This magical place is home to magnificent sculptures from artists around the world.

Schlitz Audubon #23

Little icebergs line the lake landscape today. I still feel like I'm painting on the moon, except when I hear the groups of kids exploring the lakefront, then I'm back to reality. Birding experts, I believe the picture includes two Bufflehead Ducks? The cold temps didn't seem to bother them today. Also included is a picture my friend Lori took a few days ago while I was getting started painting, lots and lots of layers!

Schlitz Audubon #21 & 22

A very abstracted landscape on Sunday with deep slate blue skies. The variations in color never cease to amaze me. Believe it or not, the lake seems to be this beautiful tropical blue/green this time of year.

Schlitz Audubon #21

A very cold morning to paint with lots of drifts and more "icecanos" forming. God puts forth this magnificent palette of colors, even in the snow and ice!

Another Mini

Another tiny painting of a great, ever-changing lake. The ice formations are changing so quickly now. It's a new scene every day. The photograph shows the formations of "icecanos" that actually spurt out water if the lake is churning. It was too calm today. Also, a picture of the many groups of kids who come to Schlitz Audubon every day for some snow exploration.

More minis

These are some tiny paintings I'm doing for an upcoming show in Cedarburg. I am enjoying the process of creating these winter scenes.

Schlitz Audubon #20

Another interesting morning of painting the sun peaking through the clouds ever so slightly. I was the first person on the trail hiking down to the lake this morning, amidst many, many coyote tracks. None came out for a visit.

Schlitz Audubon #19

Coldest day of this series to date, the winds were whipping along the lakeshore. Don't know if you can see how the wind is blowing the paper towels around? Now that we had the big thaw, the lake landscape has changed again and it is different and wonderful. Fun watching this big barge motor along while I was painting, I'm sure the driver thought these painters must be crazy!
